Sometimes I feel like I’m just going to be stuck in limbo forever...
Though I’m happy with how far I've come in my life and also as a person, I often struggle with not knowing how or when I’ll ever be able to reach my full potential.

In other words, we’re perfect in every stage of development, even though we’re not finished yet.
Every step in our ongoing process of personal development is important, and is right where we need to be at that time—regardless of how long it takes or how hard it is.
Whether you're a caterpillar or a butterfly, you are where you are, and that's okay!
And yet, we also don't want to fear or avoid change!
Sometimes, it feels like it would be easier to just give up and settle with where I'm at than to deal with the difficulty of changing and/or improving.
Then I'm reminded that God loves us just the way we are, but too much to leave us that way.
What if caterpillars gave up just before they began their transformation...
...just because they didn’t know what would happen or if they could endure it?
They’d never experience the freedom and joy of taking flight!
Metamorphosis isn’t easy or quick, but it will eventually be accomplished and well worth it!
Experiencing these butterflies as I photographed them—and then seeing them in the pictures—I couldn't help but be encouraged to realize that I'm not stuck in limbo.
I'm simply in my chrysalis phase, and I can embrace the slow, painful growth process because God will use it to help me become the very best me that I could be!
I've discovered some amazing things about butterflies, but I also realized that we can draw great lessons from them about ourselves!
Here are a few of my favorites:
'TRANSFORMATION'
Butterflies fall pretty low on the food-chain, so they have to keep up their defenses. Some keep their wings folded to blend into the environment with camouflage patterns or colors.
Some of us hide who we really are, or don’t reach our potential, because we’re afraid of getting hurt—even though what’s inside is stunning.
It's okay to protect yourself, but don't lose yourself in the process.

Some of us act tough, loud, flamboyant, witty, or even mean because we think it’ll keep us from getting bullied or taken advantage of. Others are naturally 'social butterflies' (and that's great!).
It's okay to carry yourself with confidence and maintain standards for yourself so you don’t get pushed around—while still acting dignified and kind.

An immobilized butterfly can’t escape threats or feed itself, so it’s self-motivated to take initiative and take care of itself.
When it’s time to enter a new phase in our life, it can feel scary, overwhelming, or even impossible at first because we don’t feel equipped.
Personal growth can only occur when you take the steps that you alone can take. All it takes is some courage, decisive action, and determination to send us soaring.

Some of us start to wear a little thin as we get older. Others find ourselves in a vulnerable state where what’s inside reveals itself a little more—making it feel like others can see right through us.
Being vulnerable reveals your incredible beauty from the inside out..which only makes you even more endearing (even if you're a little worn out)!

About Alyssa
Nature is Alyssa Quiñones' studio, and she calls the Arizona desert home.
Attracted to photography, nature, and travel from a young age, she spent the bulk of her free time outside in the trees, dirt, and water.
She studied photography in high school, including traditional darkroom techniques and digital photography. Over the last few years, she got further training in shooting and editing from courses led by highly successful photographers.
After she earned a Bachelor's in Chemistry, she decided to make her true passion her full-time career. Her adoration for nature ultimately determined the focus of her photography.
